John Wong is a Managing Director and Senior Partner based in BCG’s Hong Kong office and currently serves as Chairman of BCG Greater China. He previously led BCG’s healthcare practice across the Asia Pacific region and has served local and MNC clients in China, Japan, Korea, and SE Asia. Mr. Wong was named to the global top 25 list of ‘Most Influential Consultants’ by Consulting Magazine in 2004. He has also been a member of the Hong Kong Exchange Listing Committee since 2017.
Mr. Wong has more than 20 years’ experience in all major healthcare sectors including biopharmaceuticals, medtech, and providers/hospitals. More recently, he has been extensively involved with biopharma/biotech innovation in China and supporting local companies in thinking through strategies related to portfolio development, R&D organization, and commercialization. He has also supported corporate and private equity clients across pharma and medtech given the regulatory changes in product registration, reimbursement listings (national negotiations), procurement, and liberalization of the China market.
Mr. Wong is a regular speaker at business forums in Asia and China, notably in the healthcare/pharmaceutical industry. Before joining BCG in 1982, Mr. Wong worked in R&D for Milliken Research.
Mr. Wong received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with First Class Honors from Imperial College London, a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
